Why the Golden Temple?
Golden Temple of Amritsar or Harmandir Sahib is one of the most significant shrines for not only Sikhs but every Indian. The multiplicity of sacred umbrellas which adorn the parapets, invariable use of fluted domes covered with gilded copper, windows with balconies thrown out on carved brackets or bay-windows with shallow elliptical cornices, embellished walls, arches and ceilings by various forms of mural art - are some of the reasons that make this religious shrine an architectural masterpiece.
What’s the inspiration behind the designs?
India is considered one of the richest countries in the world because of its diverse culture and rich heritage. UNESCO has identified 37 heritage sites in India out of which 29 are cultural properties.
India has been ruled by various dynasties over different periods of time. From the era of Indus Valley Civilisation to Cholas, Mauryas, Rajputs, Mughals, and Britishers every ruling dynasty left behind its mark on our Land in the form of many architectural masterpieces.
If Mughlai Marvels depict the perfect blend of Indo-Islamic and Persian architecture, the forts and palaces by Rajputs illustrate the Rajputana Patronage towards art.
What Makes the Designs Uneek?
